Charles Ryrie is a leading evangelical Christian minister, counselor and writer. His Basic Irritation and the Bible teach him that we are not perfect and God doesn't care about our sin nature. In fact He wants us to be the best that we can be. God created us in His own image and likeness and we have fallen below that image. We have become defiled (iblashoshem) and need to bring ourselves back to the right path.
God created us to fellowship with each other and to love each other. When we walk in freedom and joy with our brothers and sisters in Christ, we are walking in the presence of our heavenly Father who lives and reigns. This is why there is eternal life with our heavenly Father. Jesus Christ is our Redeemer-God and Savior and this is why we have been given His divine, everlasting, eternal Word which He made known to us through His Son Jesus Christ.
The Basic Irritation and the Bible shows us how to know God. We know God because He has revealed Him to us. We know God because He is omniscient (knows all things whatsoever he hath Seen), right in mind, and omnipresent (knows all things whatever he hath desired) -all things, both good and evil, from everlasting, and will always be with us. We know God because He has an unalterable, perfect, righteous and eternal nature. We know God because He is love, grace and mercy, and because He doth show His son Jesus Christ.
Theology cannot be separated from The Bible. If you don't accept the Bible as the infallible word of God and you don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then you are not one of the saved. Every person is predestined in Christ before the foundation of the world to be saved. There is no place in the heavens or earth for anyone to be saved except in Jesus.
God saves everyone who is genuinely born again. Everyone who is genuinely born again is saved from their sin. Sinners are never saved. If someone were to say that a person is not saved from sin because they didn't live as they ought to live, that is an error of thinking.
We know that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin when He died on the cross. We also know that Jesus Christ has raised up many spiritual leaders over the ages to lead us into His righteousness and life. We know that God has an audible voice, and we also know that the Holy Spirit speaks the truth to us through the Holy Spirit. If any of these things are not true than it's possible that there is some other error in us concerning what we believe.
Charles R. Ryrie's basic theology presents a flawless picture of God's character and work. He brings great illumination and wisdom to bear in our lives. He provides a perfect picture of what we need to do and how we can go about getting what we want from Him. This is definitely one book I have learned to highly recommend.
I think most Christians will enjoy this book. It's not just another “simple Christian” book where you regurgitate all the traditional truths and get yourself completely embedded in them. It's a book I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who is serious about following Jesus and the work he is doing in their lives right now. I would recommend it strongly to anyone who wants a solid introduction to the subject.
